The Railway is tucked underneath the impressive steep wooded slopes of Mynydd Arael and is yet only a minute's walk from the centre of town. It is ideally located at the bottom of Carlyle St - the gateway to Abertillery Park.

The Railway has been the home of Abertillery Town Cricket Club for over 15 years and has a new owner - brothers 'Olly' and Rob Edwards have passed on their cricketing knowledge to Kelvin Hayman. We hope Kelvin continues to look after the club and its members in fine style! The Railway also hosts other sporting organisations in the locality, the most recent of which being Cwmtillery RFC and Blaenau Gwent Ladies RFC.

The Railway comprises of a newly refurbished bar and dining area, as well as a separate lounge and a function room upstairs. There is also a beer garden to the rear, and plans are afoot to build a bed and breakfast in close proximity.

The dedicated Function Room is ideal for all types of functions from weddings to conferences, and as such provides an excellent atmosphere in which the clubs' annual awards evenings take place.

The Railway is also host to regular live entertainment on Wednesday's, Friday's and Sunday's where you will almost certainly come across any number of the club's playing staff belting out the latest S Club 7 chart hit on DJ Kris’ karaoke night!

The cricket club holds regular meetings in the lounge both during the season and in the long winter months too.

As for the nightlife, well, let's just say it is a little interesting, especially on those hot summer nights! A little bird once told me that clubs were actively seeking Sunday friendlies at Abertillery Park with the sole reason of spending much of the early evening parked on a bench outside the Railway enjoying the ......beer. Honest! One of the more frequently told stories around the club revolves around the legendary Cardiff West Indians who were seen strolling around Abertillery one night at around 1am with a number of lovely young ladies (who first caught their eye at the Railway) on their arms! Must have been a late finish at The Park that day......

As for our own playing members' love affair with the place, well, to be honest, I haven't got the time or memory space on this site to continue!!!
