Youth News - Welcome Back !

Season 2008 is about to begin. Winning Division 1 West last season was a great success and promotes us this year to Premier status at under 13’s. It will be a difficult challenge yet valuable time in learning and development.

The club continues its support for youth cricket. £2000 spent in the last two years on coaching development and equipment. Ground improvements have also been promised for this coming season. To date ground drainage and outfield improvements have been made by the council.

Future plans include a ‘Cricket Force’ day with the club working in partnership with the council to make the ground more presentable – hopefully everyone will get involved. It will take place during May in time for the county match that is being held at the park on Sunday 8th June. No! It’s not Glamorgan, Its Pembrokeshire vs Gwent under 15’s. The club will host the day giving our youngsters an opportunity to watch county standard youth cricket. The park may become a regular venue if everything goes well.

So there we have it! Lots of good things taking place:-

• Squad nets have been running since January
• 3 age groups this season 10’s 11’s and 13’s, 1 away from a full youth section.
• Ground repairs and plans for future to ground development.
• Continued commitment and support to the youngsters.
• No increase in contribution – it remains at £20 for the 2008 season
• Coaches have attended workshops for ‘coaching wicketkeepers’ and ‘preparing teams pre and post matches’
• An under 15’s county game to be held at Abertillery Park – Gwent vs Pembrokeshire Under 15’s Sunday 8th June.
• Promotion to Premier league status for our Under 13’s

Sadly because of the weather last season it made it difficult for the youth page to be used. Things changed rapidly and circumstances led to telephone communication daily. Hopefully this summer things will be different so please visit the website more often to check for fixtures, information and many more things.
